Thanks for taking me back to the Cathedral and their monthly organ concerts Roger, it's been a while since I've been to one. In your piece, I especially appreciate your observation of how your trip on public transportation and foot created a context that ultimately made the recital more meaningful. In my forty years of commuting through LA to and from work, I tried to incorporate the use of public transportation and bicycling into my more regular use of a car. On reflection, I think part of the reason I always found myself "back on the bus", was that it created the time and space for a broader and more visceral context for the life I was creating in this crazy-big Los Angeles. Seeing and hearing and smelling the city, and sitting, walking, and commuting with the city's people, not only helped me appreciate and feel compassion for my fellow Angelinos, but cemented an appreciation for the opportunities and privileges I've been blessed with while living here.
